Hassan El Ouazzani

Country: Morocco
Language: Arabic
Year of birth: 1970

Hassan El Ouazzani is one of Morocco’s most important young poets, interesting not only for the amazingly innovative aspects of his own poetry, but also because he is a dynamic poetry critic who, through his interviews and critical publications, has effected a postmodern paradigm shift within the poetry scene of Morocco. El Ouazzani’s poems draw considerably on mythology, but in a postmodern spirit, blending mythical allusions with everyday experience. His first collection of poems, Hudnatun ma (A Truce, 1997), is characterised by its aura of intimacy and the simplicity of its language, which the poet achieves without sacrificing depth and meaning.
